Friday: Sinew and Skin
Ezekiel 37:8 — “I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.”
Sacred Invitation
Something is taking shape.
The bones are no longer scattered.
Sinew stretches over what was broken.
Skin forms where there was once only dust.
It is not yet alive.
But it is beginning to look like life.
This is the day we honor what’s forming.
The structure before the breath.
The hope that holds its shape—even when the wind hasn’t come.
Daily Reflection
There are moments in healing that feel like limbo.
You’ve moved beyond the breaking,
but the aliveness hasn’t yet arrived.
You look more whole.
Others might think you’ve recovered.
But you know—you’re still waiting for the breath.
Still longing for the Spirit to fill what has only just come together.
This in-between space is holy.
You are not fake.
You are forming.
God is not finished with you.
Hope doesn’t always come like a sunrise—sudden, bright, and sure.
Sometimes it builds slowly, like flesh over bone.
Almost unnoticed.
But real.
Somatic Practice: Trace What’s Forming
Sit with your feet grounded and your hands resting gently on your body—perhaps one on your heart, one on your belly.
Let your breath move slowly in and out.
Bring your attention to the parts of you that feel steady.
Not perfect. Not fixed. Just... held together.
Trace them in your mind, naming what has returned, what is mending, what is being formed.
If you wish, whisper aloud:
“I am being formed.
Hope is taking shape in me.”
Let your body stay here a while—held, supported, enough.
Closing Prayer
God of slow forming,
Thank you for the quiet miracle of sinew and skin.
For what holds when breath has not yet come.
For the in-between places where I am still becoming.
Help me trust this shaping.
Help me hope.
Amen.
